CAVUM COLLECTION
An exploration into brutalist furniture
A bold fusion of form and function, this 3-piece collection embodies the raw intensity of brutalist design. The lounge chair features a commanding angular frame with deep, structured seating for a striking yet comfortable repose. A matching light stand, with its geometric steel composition, casts an atmospheric glow, enhancing the moody aesthetic. Completing the set, a solid steel ashtray boasts a heavy, architectural form, blending utility with brutalist artistry.

PROCESS
01 INSPIRATION

Inspired by Brutalist architecture, this chair translates architectural principles: monolithic form, exposed structure, and visual weight into a human-scaled object. The design treats seating as a spatial element rather than furniture, creating a grounded presence that anchors the room while remaining functional and ergonomic.

Designing a living space is shaping the mind. Furniture gives that space structure, scale, and rhythm. Together, they influence how we think, move, and live.

From bold concept sketches to 3D CAD and printed prototype, this Brutalist chair explores form, structure, and presence in physical space.

MATERIAL HONESTY
02 COLOR, MATERIAL, FINISH
Material honesty drives the design of this Brutalist-inspired chair. Solid planes, sharp intersections, and minimal transitions highlight the inherent properties of the material rather than masking them. The result is a chair that feels intentional, grounded, and unapologetically physical.

Using pure, unembellished surfaces to highlight form and structure. Its black leather seat with the blacked steel frame, creating a cohesive, monolithic presence while emphasizing material honesty.

USER INTERACTION
03 DESIGN MEETS FUNCTION

Users adjust the headlight that moves along the spine of the lamp stand, accompanied with a simple on/off switch for effortless, personalized comfort.

The chair balances presence and proportion while remaining manageable in scale. Its connective Y-piece allows the legs to be disassembled for easy transport, merging modular practicality with the Brutalist aesthetic.

THE CAVUM COLLECTION
BRUTALIST DESIGN
Brutalism in design is important because it prioritizes honesty, clarity, and intention in design. This clarity fosters trust, longevity, and a stronger emotional connection to objects
And this project demonstrates how bold geometry, structural clarity, and material integrity can coexist with human-centered design, resulting in a piece that is as purposeful as it is powerful.
